By the time Jesus ascended into heaven there was still no church.  The church sprang into existence after Peter’s public address on the Day of Pentecost.  Thereafter, the Holy Spirit raised up and deployed Apostles to the pagan nations.  The word “apostle” means “one who is sent” or “messenger of God.”   In country after country, Christianity took root and gradually displaced the existing false religious systems native to the culture.

Egypt is by far the most influential Muslim country of Africa.

Harmony has had great success taking Muslim Background Believers (MBBs) and training them as modern evangelists to the Muslim communities they once belonged to.  These men and women know the culture, are familiar with the Quran, and can speak in a way that other Muslims will listen—because they were saved out of Islam.

In Acts 1:8 Jesus said, “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”    Following the model laid out by our Lord, Harmony has been sending out MBB evangelists as modern-day apostles to Muslim communities.  For us, “Jerusalem and Judea” were primarily in the Oromia and Wolaita regions of Ethiopia.  “Samaria” for us are those areas of Ethiopia that are almost completely Muslim—Ethiopian Somali and the Afar regions.  Deploying evangelists into other countries, such as Egypt and Eritrea is being a witness for Jesus “to the ends of the Earth.”

Harmony has made our initial forays into Egypt, making contact with the evangelical and underground church.  Christians in Egypt are terribly persecuted.  Those Christians who are “above-ground,” primarily Coptic Christians, are under siege.  They are forced to hide within the confines of Orthodox churches because, if they evangelize, there will be an almost immediate violent reaction.

The real growth and active parts of the Lord’s church lie primarily in the underground evangelical church.  We are currently preparing members of our team—those most successful in leading Muslims to Christ and who have a calling to the nations—for permanent reassignment to Egypt. Because of the extreme security involved in this type of work, we cannot say much about this on our website.
